Did I mention that I’m a dog person?
Portraits & Cocktails began with my passion for photography, dogs and sharing a cocktail with family, friends and my dogs – Halo, Cherry and Grover.
The thought behind Portraits & Cocktails was to create events that combined my passions and would raise money to benefit the greater dog good. Originally, this concept started out as an art event at a local restaurant during cocktail hour. That idea was okay but let’s have the event raise money for rescue. The ideas kept evolving and then there was the brilliant idea to photograph dog portraits as a way to raise money for rescue. We paired portraits with sangria samples. The result was we raised over $1,200, photographed 30 dogs and found 3 great homes for “Man’s Best Friend”.
In 2015, my focus became a little narrower and canine cancer research became front and center. At this time, Grover was diagnosed with canine lymphoma. While devastated by the news, we were both determined to create a positive result from our experience. Grover and I discussed our options and decided not only to write about our journey and to have Portraits & Cocktail events to raise money for research. Both “A Watch(ed) Dog Never Boils” and Portraits & Cocktails are focused on raising money for treatment research. For me, it’s a true dog adventure filled with smiles, laughs, warm hearts, wet noses and a few cocktails.
